A laser-cut vertical stand that holds a laptop on its edge to save desk space while it is docked to an external monitor.
01
Giving the desk back
When a laptop is docked to an external monitor, it doesn’t need to lie flat on the desk. So I made this laser-cut vertical stand to hold it upright on its edge. Instead of covering a big piece of the desk, the laptop stands inside a slim arch and takes up only a narrow strip.

Ribs, braces and finger joints
The stand is one gentle arch, like a small bridge, with the laptop standing up through the middle. Each half is a pair of arched ribs held apart by small cross braces, and the pieces lock together with tabs, slots and finger joints at the base. The laptop’s edge drops into the channel between the two inner ribs, so the two halves hold it from both sides.
