A 1:150 scale laser-cut model of a friend's house, built as a housewarming gift. Every part was modeled from reference photos and architectural drawings.
01
A gift shaped like home
For a friend’s housewarming, I built a 1:150 scale model of their house. I modeled every part from reference photos and the architectural drawings, so each proportion comes from the drawings and not from guesswork. The front elevation from that set of drawings sits next to the finished model.
02
Flattened for the laser
I modeled the whole house in 3D first, then broke it down into flat panels that could be cut on a laser and joined back together. The parts were nested on sheets for an Epilog laser cutter, with the window panes engraved straight into the walls.
03
Put together by hand
I glued the model together by hand, panel by panel, with super glue, tweezers and pliers, and finger joints lock the base together.
04
Clear railings and tiny stairs
Small clear pieces stand in for the balcony railings, and the staircases are cut as thin stepped profiles, right down to the tiny two-flight staircase on the back of the house.
05
Next to the real house
Seen from a drone, the real house shows how closely the model follows it: the hip roof, the entry stairs set between the tall windows and the covered balcony are all in the model at 1:150.
